Fondant cake for my little boy’s 1st birthday! Inspired by Elmo’s design in the plates we used. This cake is simple but took a long time to make due to the small pieces that had to be put in. But all is worth it for my boy! Hope you like this one.

@Nathal2009
it’s all fondant
Is it butter cream or fondant? thanx
a regular cake is covered in buttercream icing (usually) a fondant cake, takes the regular cake and still takes another step by covering it in satiny smooth fondant icing which looks like a dough that is rolled out and is laid on top of the buttercream covered cake
sorry for asking if i sound stupid.. but whats the difference between a regular cake and a fondant cake?

Great Job!
That’s gorgeous!
Wow so good!
its more like a prelimenary coat of watered down icing– after you have put in filling, you coat the entire cake with a thin layer of watered down icing–so the crumbs stick to that..and when that layer has crusted, you can put the ‘real’ icing layer, and the crumbs will not stick on it anymore. having the cake cold at this stage also helps you in making the cake smooth since it wont melt on you while you smooth it out.
what do you mean by crumb coating?
looks goooooooood
you pretty much got it … after crumb coating the cake , its best to let it sit in the fridge for couple of hours until it ‘crusts’… or the icing wont stick to your finger when u touch it. so crumb coat-fridge-icing-fridge… and doing so will prepare the cake better for fondant.
